Is It Gold?

Is It Gold?

The Star Pin shown is real gold, 14K Gold.  Gold Filled is a laminate in which sheets of real gold are fused to metal alloys. The laminate is usually rolled out afterwards. That means there is a much thicker gold layer than the microscopically thin deposit of gold laid down in electroplating.

Sometimes the gold is so thick in gold filled that it can be engraved without exposing the base layer. When GF is over Silver, it is called vermeille, or vermeil.

There is a BIG difference between the superficial flash of a gold plate surface and the depth of gold filled metal. Gold filled metal is much more durable than gold plate, which will turn color, wear off, and break.

Ask about Barb’s Little Treasures findings in 14KGF as an excellent  alternative to Sterling or real Gold.  You can enjoy the look of real gold at a fraction of the cost.
