Barb is the founder and CEO of Barb’s Little Treasures, LLC, a jewelry design and manufacturing company. It all began in 1953 after Barbara had a very serious fall off a retaining wall.
A babysitter taught Barbara how to make little pins and earrings with sea shells. The objective was to keep her busy, but no one ever suspected that Barbara had an enterprising mind – even at a very tender age.
Left unsupervised, Barbara tried to sell her goods in front of her house. No one walked by. She fixed that problem! She put her creations in a box and went door to door selling the jewelry. Only when her mother found the money Barbara had tucked away, was she told she had to stop doing that. That’s when the advertising began.
Barbara told everyone what she did to earn a little money, and took orders when she pointed out the “Gardenia Flower Pin” she wore. A move to another state did not hinder her. While she no longer went door to door, church ladies in a new town loved the pins and matching earrings. Things slowed down, but she still had orders for the sea shell jewelry all through formal education, marriage, and a family.
When Barbara moved to Arizona in the late 1980s, people in stores wanted to buy the beaded earrings she wore. By then, she was a museum quality seed bead artisan, even designing her own patterns. Not long afterwards, she began working with gem stones and precious metals. Barbara managed her own kiosk in what was the Tri-City Mall in Mesa, Az, for a few months, then rented a booth for seventeen (17) years at an outdoor mall on weekends. In 2001, Barbara discovered Toastmasters International. Although she was accustomed to public speaking, Barbara says that becoming a Toastmaster is one of the best things she ever did. Her ability to communicate with strangers was greatly enhanced, evidenced by increased sales. Like the decision she made as a child, she decided to take the product to people instead of waiting in one place for people to come to her. From 2010 through 2018, Barbara was a vendor traveling around the United States of America. Barbara sells her original jewelry designs, and the work of Native American friends, internationally. Geodes, fossils, minerals, polished stones for professional jewelers to set in Silver or Gold, hand carved stone animals, and much more with new Content added weekly!
